Guidance, Inspiration and Support
Marian Nelson
Director & Founder
Marian founded the Jumeirah Music Centre Perth in 2011 with
children in mind and crafted her own music and movement program
to create a progressive curriculum to develop young musicians and prepare them later for individual music instructions. Marian holds a master’s degree in Music from UWA and a bachelor’s degree in Musicology from University of the Philippines. She has a licentiate diploma in Vocal Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and a licentiate diploma in Music Education from London Trinity College.
As a vocal artist and performer, Marian made her stage debut in Dubai as the Dew Fairy in an international production of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel alongside principals from the UK, USA, and Canadian opera companies. Marian has appeared in recitals, concerts, and operatic engagements across the Philippines, United Arab Emirates and Australia. Highlights include solo appearances with the Dubai Singers, Art Song Perth, and Vivaldi's 'Gloria' with the Dubai Chamber Orchestra and Choir.
Tristan Murphy
Visiting Piano Teacher
Tristan graduated from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston studying under Meng-Chieh Liu. Before this, he studied under Mark Coughlan in Perth and graduated from Juilliard Pre-College in New York under Victoria Mushkatkol.
Tristan has given many solo, concerto and chamber recitals in places such as New York, Boston, Las Vegas, Aspen, Miami, Canada, Italy, Australia and Korea. He has won many national and international piano competitions including the Australian National Eisteddfod, International Piano Competition for Young Musicians, Pepsi-Co National Concerto Competition and the Miami International Music Festival Competition.
Tristan has also participated extensively in many international festivals and played in masterclasses for great artists such as Dimitri Bashkirov, Nelita True, Choong-Mo Kang, Ilana Vered, Gary Graffman. Currently, Tristan is pursuing his Master of Music degree in piano performance under Jerome Rose at Mannes School of Music in New York.
Jayson Fish
Guitar Teacher
Jayson brings over 6 years of dedicated teaching experience to his guitar lessons, having successfully guided students as a private tutor and as group instructor at his former place of employment in Leederville. His passion for music and teaching ensures that each lesson is tailored to meet the individual needs of his students.
Jayson is a musician who graduated from WAAPA with a Diploma in Contemporary Music. He specializes in finger-style and classical guitar, showcasing his versatility as both a lead and rhythm guitarist. With his extensive skills and passion for music, Jayson brings a unique sound to every performance and is committed to helping his students, whether a beginner or looking to refine skills , achieve their musical goals. His aim to make each lesson an enriching guitar experience!

Jihye Gwak
Violin Teacher
​
Jihye is a passionate music teacher dedicated to inspiring her students to explore their love for music through engaging and interactive lessons. With 16 years of playing experience, she started her musical journey at the age of 10.
Jihye was a member of UWA Symphony Orchestra for two years and since 2019 up to present, plays in the violin section of the Church Worship Team.
Jihye holds a Bachelor of General Music Studies from the University of Western Australia and is currently pursuing her Master in Primary Education at Curtin University, with the goal of becoming a primary school music teacher.
Kate Nelson
Student Teacher, Violin

As an advanced violin student, Kate is a much loved teacher at Jumeirah Music Centre Perth. Her valuable traits include: dedication and commitment, approachability, engaging teaching style, patience, and sense of humour. ​
At just 8 years of age, Kate won second place in Joondalup Eisteddfod Solo Stringed Instrument. Kate also received a High Achievement Award at Prendiville Specialised Music. For a short while, she was a member of Northern Lights Music Community Orchestra.​
Kate made her debut performance as a solo violinist in 2023 at the Gawad Kalinga Australia charity event for the benefit of ‘Kusina Ng Kalinga’ Children Feeding Program.​

Kate has recently been awarded a Certificate in Violin Performance from Trinity College London.

Victoria Yang
StudentTeacher, Violin
Victoria is our youngest team member at Jumeirah Music Centre Perth. With a passion for the violin that ignited at just five years, she has already garnered recognition by winning multiple competitions, including the Fremantle, North Perth, and South Suburban Eisteddfod.
Her dedication gained her high distinction in the AMEB Certificate of Performance and an award in the AMEB Associate level practical exam in violin. She was also the recipient of the Australian Strings Association (AUSTA) National Graham Wood OAM Award for Best Diploma Candidate in Orchestral Strings (2023).
Currently, Victoria is the concertmaster of the West Australian Youth Orchestra.
